Stéphane Cueille named Director of Safran Tech

January 27, 2015: On January 1, 2015, Stéphane Cueille was named director of Safran Tech, Safran's new Research & Technology center in the Paris-Saclay technology cluster near Paris, inaugurated today. He reports directly to Eric Bachelet, Safran Vice President, R&T.

Stéphane Cueille, 42, graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique (1991) and holds a post-graduate degree in solid-state physics (1995) and a PhD in statistical physics (1998). Holding the rank of Ingénieur de l’armement (chief scientist, defense), he was detached to Snecma (Safran) from 1998 to 2001 to work on ceramic matrix composite materials. He joined the French defense procurement agency DGA (Délégation générale pour l’armement) in 2001, holding various management positions concerning aircraft propulsion systems. In 2005, he was named head of the Missiles-Space sector in the DGA's industrial affairs department (S2IE), before returning to Snecma in 2008. He first worked with Snecma's turbine blade quality department in Gennevilliers, subsequently being named head of repairs for the Military Engine division, then head of the Turbine Blade Center of Excellence. From May 2013 until this latest promotion he was Managing Director of Aircelle Ltd, a Burnley-based subsidiary of Aircelle (Safran).
