Aero India 2019: Customs duty on import of aircraft

It is learnt from some reliable sources that the Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitharaman, did raise an objection to this step by the Department of Customs and has sought reversal of the notification.

The notification of January 17, 2019, by the Commissioner of Customs, Bengaluru, regarding the imposition of customs duty on aircraft and equipment to be imported by exhibitors for display at Aero India 2019 has been a source of consternation for the participants to the Airshow. Though refundable when the imported equipment is flown out of India, this order is regarded as totally unwarranted and unnecessary harassment.

Cancellation of this notification will certainly provide immense relief to affected participants.
