The Gurugram-headquartered low-cost Indian carrier, SpiceJet announced the launch of four new routes (both domestic and international) on Thursday, October 17, 2019. The airline stated that four new flights connecting Thiruvananthapuram with Male and Chennai will be started in order to strengthen the carrier's network in the southern part of India. The operations for all these new flights are scheduled to commence operations from 20th November, 2019.

"In view of the significant tourism potential, SpiceJet is introducing a direct flight on the Thiruvananthapuram-Male route. With the increased demand from customers and reaffirming its commitment to enhancing domestic connectivity, SpiceJet has also introduced new flights on the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai sector," the airline stated.

With the increased demand from customers and reaffirming its commitment to enhancing domestic connectivity, SpiceJet has also introduced new flights on the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai sector," the airline stated.

SpiceJet hopes that with the new flights, passengers from Thiruvananthapuram will be now able to easily travel to a host of other cities both on SpiceJet's domestic as well as international network.

Fares and timings

The budget airline operator also shared the fares for these newly introduced routes along with the timings. The reasonable fares are all-inclusive as a promotional feat. Bookings for these flights are now open.

"SpiceJet is celebrating the launch by announcing introductory all-inclusive promotional fare starting at INR 2501 on Chennai - Thiruvananthapuram, INR 3009 on Thiruvananthapuram - Chennai, INR 5539 on Thiruvananthapuram - Male and INR 7091 on Male - Thiruvananthapuram routes," the airline informed.

The airline also mentioned that all the new flights will operate daily and SpiceJet will deploy its Bombardier Q400 aircraft on these routes.

Just the last month, SpiceJet had disclosed the introduction of 46 new non-stop flights on the domestic chain. These new flights were to start in phases beginning from October 27, 2019.

In September, SpiceJet chairman Ajay Singh had thrown hints at the possibility of buying a "sizeable" number of Airbus A321LR and XLR jets to integrate a planned expansion. Grounding of the Boeing 737 Max, which constitutes most of SpiceJet's fleet, is the main reason that could pave way for this significant deal for Airbus. However, he clarified that as of now no decision has been made and the airline is only weighing an order for Airbus SE planes while Boeing is still encountering the fallout of its grounded 737 Max. "Airbus has made us a commercial offer and we are evaluating it," he said. The exact size of a potential transaction with Airbus has not been specified yet but Singh mentioned that any aircraft order that the airline will place would consist of at least a 100 aircraft.

Just the last month, SpiceJet had also disclosed the introduction of 46 new non-stop flights on the domestic chain. These new flights were to start in phases beginning from October 27, 2019. The new flight services were announced to be initiated on the Pune-Jodhpur, Chennai- Durgapur, Mumbai-Jodhpur, Bengaluru-Guwahati, Chennai-Vishakhapatnam, Chennai-Jaipur, Vijayawada-Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad-Aurangabad, Chennai - Patna, Ahmedabad-Jodhpur, Surat-Udaipur routes, among others.

In addition to that, the carrier had also declared the on-boarding of Rajkot as its 54th domestic network destination with the launch of a daily non-stop flight on the Mumbai-Rajkot route. There was also, information released about the airline launching services on the Chennai-Durgapur UDAN route.
