3-member crew jump out of chopper as it ditched, rescued
A ship-borne Indian Navy Chetak helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea last week, according to a Naval issued on April 16. All three crew members escaped the crash. The helicopter has been lost in the sea.
This helicopter was integral to an Indian warship operationally deployed in the Arabian Sea. The Navy is citing technical failure as the cause of the crash, but this will be ascertained by a Board of Inquiry, which has been ordered.
"As per reports, the helicopter developed technical failure prior ditching and the crew displayed immense professional prowess and sound training, thereby deftly landing the helicopter in the water and successfully egressing from it," the Navy stated. "A major catastrophe was averted by the well-trained Indian Naval aircrew," the statement added.
"A Board of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the technical failure leading to the loss of the helicopter," the Navy declared in a brief statement.
