With Indian pilots flying joint sorties with their Russian counterparts in Russian Air Force Su-30SM fighters and Mi-35 attack helicopters kicking off the Aviaindra 2014 joint exercise on Friday over Russia's Pogonovo and Ashuluk test ranges in Voronezh and Astrakhan regions near the Caspian Sea, it has been decided that the second phase of the exercise will take place in Indian airspace from November 10-21. The Indian crew arrived in arrived at Lipetsk on August 25. Starting August 29, the joint crews have engaged in Su-30SM mid-air refuelling with an Il-78M and helicopter special operation exercises. A spokesperson for the Russian Air Force has said, "Joint air defence crews at Ashuluk military range will repulse a strike by a simulated enemy with field firings of anti-aircraft missile systems S-400, S-300, Buk-M1, and anti-aircraft missile-and-gun system Pantsir-S1." The first phase will continue till September 5. Russian Air Force chief Colonel General Viktor Bondarev, flagged off the proceedings at Lipetsk on Friday.
