Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines power Swiss International Air Lines ("SWISS") Airbus A320neo family aircraft, of which the first aircraft has just been delivered to the airline. Pratt & Whitney will also provide SWISS with engine maintenance through an EngineWise® Protect service agreement. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp.
"Thanks to their innovative GTF engines, the Airbus A320neo family aircraft will make a major contribution to SWISS' environmental efficiency while providing our passengers a quieter trip," said Thomas Klühr, CEO of SWISS.
"We're thrilled that SWISS has decided to add additional GTF-powered aircraft to its fleet with the A320neo," said Rick Deurloo, chief customer officer at Pratt & Whitney. "Pratt & Whitney truly values the confidence that SWISS has placed in the clean, fuel-efficient geared fan technology of the GTF engine, and we look forward to supporting their fleet for many years to come."
Since entering into service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 50 percent compared to the regulatory standard, and to reduce the noise footprint by 75 percent.
